- Expert advice and consultation
- Evaluation of potential value of items.
- Organization and display. Provide folding tables, portable shelving as necessary.
- Advertise the sale. Take pictures and thorough descriptions of items. Vehicles require special attention and Six-Pence advertises on many other things than Estate Sales. Please just ask us and we will detail specifically how we SELL VEHICLES FOR HIGHER PRICES THAN ANYONE ELSE.
- Review neighborhood or community rules regarding sale. Obtain “no parking” signs from the police if necessary.
- Set up signage within the sale areas to keep customers safe and navigate them trough the property.
- Set out numbers the morning of the sale to attract more customers. We do not do this for some sales if parking is an issue or concern about “early birds”. We will evaluate the best methods for you.
- Thorough directions given to the sale on the websites.
The Estate Sale
- Schedule the consultation.
- Review the owner’s goals for the sale, purposes, and what items/areas will have contents for sale.
- Six-Pence evaluates the household and other items to be sold by touring the property with the owner.
- Look for unique and valuable items and discuss sales approaches.
- Review the area/community for the upcoming sale and evaluate parking, signage, neighborhood rules, etc.
- Review contents of the estate and consult with the owner/estate planner in regards to what expectations they may have for the value.
- Discuss potential sale dates. Most sales last for 2 days, Saturday and Sunday. Some sales may need to start on Friday or be 3 days. Mondays typically are not as successful as Fridays.
- Discuss any cleanout needs after the sale.
- Review the cash register process and proceeds from the sale. The estate sale company keeps an agreed percentage of the sale. Typically this is around 30%. This may change depending on the customer’s needs and if any discount that might apply, such as having Brian Pence list the property after the sale or if customers want Six-Pence Estate Sales to refer “as is” brokers to make cash offers on the property.
- Access to the property is necessary and Six-Pence Estate Sales is insured and bonded so you are safe to know that nothing will be damaged. We take excellent care of the property while working.
- Six-Pence organizes and sorts through the sale items and prepares for the sale. Any personal items/documents if found are set aside. If any jewelry or specifically valuable/rare items are found the owner is notified.
- We ask the owner not to be present for the sale itself. This is an “Estate Sale No-No”. Customers do not like to have the owners around and will avoid purchasing or “haggling”. Please feel free to stop in and check on things if you wish.
- HAVE A GREAT AND FUN SALE!
